Islay Golf Club – Club Update April 2024

Dear Fellow Members,

It gives me great pleasure to speak to you as the new Islay Golf Club Captain for season 2024/25. I am very much looking forward to the year ahead, and to following in the footsteps of so many great Captains before. I commit to you all that I will do my very best for you and our Club at all times. It also gives me great pleasure to announce that Donald Logan will be my Vice Captain for the year – I am sure you will all join me in congratulating Donald on his appointment! This is the first of the monthly updates I aim to get out to all of our members, to let everyone know what’s going on.

Captain v Vice Captain Match & Presentation Dinner 2024

23rd March saw 20 hardy souls competed in the annual Captain v Vice Captain match, in what can only be described as extreme weather. The 50mph winds and the occasional biblical downpour did not go unnoticed, but despite the challenge, a couple of the groups did manage to complete their matches – with some surprisingly good scores given the conditions. The outcome was a draw, with both teams sharing the honours.

Later that evening, 40 members enjoyed a warm and friendly welcome at The Bridgend Hotel for the presentation of the season’s prizes. A great chance to catch up with friends, honour the winners and also a chance for many to say a huge thank you and farewell to Dean Muir & Dale Foley. Again, I will thank them both, along with David Foley for their hard work, effort and friendship over their time on Islay. There is always an open door for them and their families at Islay Golf Club.

Membership Renewal 2024

We are now into a new membership year and a huge thank to all those who have chosen to renew for this upcoming season. Can I ask that anyone still wishing to renew their membership do so asap, so we may draw the process to a close and focus on the year of competition ahead.

Course Liaison Convenor

We have established a new role within the Club, Course Liaison Convenor, which will be the key point of contact with The Machrie on all matters to do with the golf course. I am delighted to say that Donald Hendry has accepted this role and is very much looking forward to building a positive relationship with The Machrie and giving you, the members, a point of contact for raising any feedback or questions you may have on the course. Initially, any items you may wish to raise, in a constructive manner, should be directed to Donald by email at: donald688@btinternet.com

General Score Submission

In line with Scottish Golf guidelines, IGC are making some adjustments and recommendations to score card submission:
Only sanctioned Islay Golf Club competition scores can be submitted via the Match Secretary, to be processed through Master Scoreboard. These scores must be sent to the Match Secretary by 10pm (latest) on the day of the match.
Any general play scored must be submitted via the SGA App, following their criteria of timing, location and countersignature. Please note scoring round commitment is made prior to tee off, is time bound and requires you to be in the vicinity of the course played to submit. No General Play scores will be accepted by the Match Secretary.

It is requested that non-scheduled matches, but still for IGC members (e.g. the midweek Winter & Summer sweep matches), should have members submitting scores via the SGA app.

Best regards,

Brian
