Gordon Macmillan Memorial Team Competition
Written by Scott Currie
Wednesday, 18 April 2018 07:52
As you are aware, the above competition will be held on the opening Saturday of Cross Week 2018.  The day will provide us all with the opportunity to honour the memory of our Cross Champion.

The Committee is keen to use the day to raise funds for 2 charities / organisations selected by Gordon's wife, Lorna.  To assist with this, a raffle will take place with proceeds being distributed between the Royal Marsden Hospital and the 'Islay and Jura Palliative Care fund'.

5000 tickets have been printed for sale at £1 each with the star prize being a 2 night stay with golf at Machrie. Other prizes include a Scotty Cameron putter (donated by Lorna), a weekend self catering accommodation on Islay, a deluxe Whisky Tour and numerous bottles of local produce.

To assist in the fundraising the Committee is asking all members to take an allocation of tickets to sell.  It is hoped that we will sell close to the 5000 printed tickets so I would ask that you make an effort to sell as many tickets as possible.  If, for example, every member was to sell a minimum of 25 tickets we would comfortably reach our target.  I am sure the prizes on offer will make it an easy sell!!!

of the number of tickets you would like to sell and we will get them posted / delivered to you.

Thanks in advance

COUNTRY MEMBERSHIP LIST NOW CLOSED
Written by Scott Currie
Tuesday, 16 May 2017 08:11
In the light of preliminary discussions with the new hotel management, Islay Golf Club has now closed its Country Membership list to new applications (those few currently in train will be accepted). This DOES NOT AFFECT existing Country Members. Those who are currently "retained" will be given a once only opportunity to upgrade next season, or they can do so now.

Any new applications will be placed on a waiting list. There will be a cap on the number of Country Members to be agreed with the Hotel, at which point the waiting list will be contacted with up to date information on the likelhood of gaining membership.

Local memberships are still available - for the time being, "local" means if your main place of residence is on Islay or Jura or if you have frequent access to your holiday home here. Other requests will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

Machrie Golf Links Seeding of the new fairways and approaches has now begun.

Could all golfers please stay off these areas wherever possible.

If you need to retrieve your ball, please take the shortest direct route leaving your trolley or buggy on the original fairways.

All construction areas will remain G.U.R. and relief must be taken.

Your cooperation and assistance with this will ensure the new areas have a higher rate of germination and ultimately establishment for us all to enjoy.

Thank You

Dean Muir Course Manager
