As from Monday 17th September, Cottage 2 will be closed (so please remove anything you have in there) and we are invited to use the "1891" lounge at the end of the driving range for clocking in and doing the sweeps etc on Sundays from then on. We are of course very welcome to use the changing facilites etc in the hotel. An update on Cottage 1 will be posted as and when we know anything but it will not be available for some months.

The Machrie Hotel opened today -

and looks stunning to me.  All of our trophies, except the museum ones, are on display with the Cross looking particularly good above the fireplace.

Cottage 1 now closed. To check in before your round go in the main entrance and walk through the hotel to the golf shop at the far end.

Member's Use of Buggies - Update
Written by Scott Currie
Tuesday, 31 July 2018 13:07

As a few people seem to have been having issues with this, we have sought clarification as follows..

The current discount on buggy hire (50%) for Islay GC members with a medical certificate will be honoured for the remainder of this year. During this period, the Machrie will monitor the usage and make an informed decision for next year onwards. Note that other members get a 10% discount.

Regarding members personal buggies, the Machrie ask that going forward there not be any further members personal buggies.  They will continue to allow those that presently have buggies to use them; however, request that usage is limited to their personal use only, and that there is no sub hiring of said buggies.

One further point, once the Academy opens (the Par 3 course, putting green, driving range etc), there will be no extra charge this year (you will have to pay for balls on the range). In future years the annual fee will be adjusted to include these facilities.

New Rules for 2019
Written by Scott Currie
Friday, 07 September 2018 12:58

I have today received a number of "Rules of Golf" books, which I'll put in the new clubhouse when we get it.  In the meantime, I'll carry them when I'm at the course so you can ask me for a copy. (please note that "away" players should get one from your home club).

The new rules have some SIGNIFICANT changes from the old ones, but although the new rule book is much better written it does not contain a summary of changes. The best place for this is section 2 of the "overview" document in https://www.rules.golf/#resourcesare. There are also various other pages to explain each new change.

For those of you with the technology you can dowload the app at https://www.randa.org/Apps

The new rules come into play on 1st January, so please make sure you know them.

Tee Times
Written by Scott Currie
Friday, 27 July 2018 09:07
Please note that the Machrie is now getting busy and is about to become much busier. They have asked that we all phone in advance of turning up to book a tee time - partly so we won't find a party about to go out, but also to record the course usage. Usual number 302310.
